Set Up Your Adventure Profile in Minutes
Thred™ onboarding is five screens, not an endless form. Tell us your handle, what you are here for, and the sports you love, and Thred starts surfacing the right people, events, and groups before you have finished your coffee.

Create an account with your email, or sign in with Apple or Google, confirm your email, and the whole setup is a few taps deep. Everything else can wait until you want it.
- Username — Pick a handle. No real name is ever required.
- What brings you to Thred? — Find Adventure Partners, Share Adventure Stories, Plan Adventures with Other People, Find New Adventures Near Me. Choose any that fit.
- Birthday — Confirms you are 18 or older. It is never shown on your profile.
- Your sports — Motorcycles, Watersports, Running / Hiking, Snowsports, Cycling, Climbing. Select all that apply.
- Profile created — Straight to the home feed. No tutorial maze, no paywall.

Your Sports Drive Who You Discover
Sport selection is the one step that matters most. Every person in the Connect Discover tab, every group suggested to you, and every event in your feed is filtered by the sports you pick.
- Choose from Motorcycles, Watersports, Running / Hiking, Snowsports, Cycling, and Climbing. Pick as many as you ride, run, paddle, or climb.
- Later, in Edit Profile, add the specific activities inside each sport so you find compatible partners, not just anyone with the same gear.
- Sport filters in Connect and Events respect your saved preferences.
- Change your sports any time. Your Discover feed and event suggestions update immediately.
Permissions When They Matter, Not Before
Thred does not front-load a wall of system prompts. Location, notifications, camera, and photo library access are each requested at the moment a feature needs them, and every one of them can be skipped.
- Location unlocks nearby events and people. The app works without it.
- Notifications cover connection requests, messages, and event updates.
- Camera and photo library are only asked for when you add a photo.
- Review or change each permission later under Settings, then Privacy & Permissions.

Help That Lives Where You Are
Browsable guides, FAQs, and full-text search, inside the app with no browser required. When you have a question mid-trip, the answer is one tap away instead of one tab away.
- Guides organized by category, around what you are actually trying to do.
- Full-text search across every help article.
- A help button on key screens opens the article for exactly that screen.

Five Guided Tours, Always Replayable
The first time you land on each major screen, a short tour points out what is where. Tours run once on their own, and you can replay any of them from Settings whenever you want a refresher.
- Home
- Events
- Groups
- Explore Mapping
- Route Builder

Round Out Your Profile When You Are Ready
Everything onboarding skipped is one tap away in Edit Profile and My Account, and none of it is required to start connecting.
- A profile photo. Optional, but a clear photo gets more connection requests.
- The specific activities inside each sport.
- A ZIP code to sharpen local event and people discovery.
- An optional phone number for account security. It is never shown to other users.
- Private Locations that trim your home and work out of every shared route. See how Thred protects your address.

Frequently Asked Questions About Getting Started on Thred
How do I start using Thred?
Create an account with your email or sign in with Apple or Google, confirm your email, and tap through five quick screens: username, what brings you to Thred, birthday, your sports, and profile created. Most people are in the home feed in under two minutes.
What information do I need to provide during onboarding?
A username, your birthday, and at least one sport. That is the whole list. A profile photo, phone number, ZIP code, and the specific activities inside each sport can all be added later from Edit Profile and My Account.
Do I need to use my real name?
No. Thred uses a username-only identity. Pick any handle you like. Your real name is never required and is never shown to other adventurers.
Why does Thred need my birthday?
Your birthday confirms you are at least 18 years old. It is not displayed on your public profile and is not shared with other users.
When does Thred ask for location, notifications, camera, or photo access?
Only at the moment a feature needs it. Every request can be skipped, and you can review or change each permission later under Settings, then Privacy & Permissions.
Can I change my sports and activities after onboarding?
Yes. Open your profile, tap Edit Profile, and update your sports and the specific activities inside each one at any time. Discover, Events, and group suggestions update immediately.
What if I get lost in the app?
Five guided tours walk you through Home, Events, Groups, GPX Explorer, and Route Builder the first time you open each screen, and you can replay any of them from Settings. The in-app Knowledge Base has browsable guides and full-text search, and many screens carry a help button that opens the right article.
