Stop Switching Apps. Plan Every Adventure in One Place.

Most outdoor adventures require three separate apps before you even leave home — a route planner, a weather app, and an avalanche tool. Thred™ puts all of it on one map: import your GPX route, check pinpoint weather at every stage, assess slope angles, and save the whole plan offline before you step out the door.

Everything in One Planning Screen

Import a route, pin weather forecasts at every stage, check the route analysis, and save the whole plan for offline use — all without leaving the app. When your plan is ready, share it with your group in a single tap.

  • Import and edit routes from any of your other devices.
  • Review the route analysis to see the route length and elevation gain and loss
  • Use the interactive graph to see exactly where the tough spots are located
  • Link one or more weather forecasts directly to a saved route
  • Share completed plans with your group before the outing

Import GPX, FIT & TCX Files — Plans You Already Have, Enriched

Already have routes from Garmin, Wahoo, Komoot, or any GPS device? Import them directly into Thred. GPX, FIT, and TCX files are all supported. Thred™ automatically extracts distance, elevation gain, and starting coordinates so your route is ready to share, attach to an event, or save for later — no manual data entry required.

  • GPX, FIT, and TCX file formats all supported
  • Auto-extraction of distance, elevation gain, and start location
  • Attach imported routes directly to events or share on your activity feed
  • Edit imported routes in-app — add waypoints, water sources, or sightseeing stops
  • Saved routes available in your personal routes collection for reuse and sharing

Weather Forecasts for Your Exact Location, Not the Nearest Town

Some apps show weather near a route summary or just your current location. Thred™ goes further: tap any point on the map — a summit, a valley crossing, a remote trailhead — and get a forecast for that exact location saved to your route. Check conditions at the start, mid-route, and finish before you commit to a plan.

  • Tap any map point to get a location-specific forecast — not a city average
  • Current temperature, wind speed, humidity, pressure, and sky condition
  • 24-hour hourly forecast with precipitation chance at each hour
  • 7-day outlook with 12-hour morning/afternoon splits
  • Severe weather alerts shown automatically — color-coded by severity
  • Save forecasts (up to 20) or attach them directly to your route

Avalanche Slope Angle Overlays for Backcountry Safety

For backcountry skiers, snowshoers, and mountaineers, slope angle is a critical variable in avalanche risk assessment. Thred™ overlays slope angle data directly onto the map — color-coded by risk threshold — so you can identify dangerous terrain and route around it before you head into the backcountry.

  • Slope angle overlay color-coded by avalanche risk threshold (30°–45°+ danger zones)
  • Measure slope angle on the map when planning or even in the snow
  • Identify avalanche terrain at a glance without leaving the route planning screen
  • Combine slope angle with weather data for a full risk picture

Safety note: Slope angle overlays are a planning aid. Always consult your regional avalanche forecast and travel with trained partners and appropriate rescue equipment in avalanche terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions About Thred Planning

Can I import GPX, FIT, and TCX files into Thred?

Yes. Thred supports GPX, FIT, and TCX route files. When you attach a file to an event or route, Thred automatically extracts distance, elevation gain, and starting coordinates.

How does pinpoint weather work for trip planning?

Enable Pinpoint Weather Mode in the Explore tab, then tap any location on the map. A weather drawer slides up with current conditions, a 24-hour hourly forecast, and a 7-day outlook for that exact point. Severe weather alerts appear automatically at the top. Tap multiple points along your route to compare conditions across different terrain.

How is Thred's weather different from other route creation apps?

Competitors show weather near a route summary. Thred lets you tap any specific map point — a summit, a valley, a remote trailhead — and get a forecast for that exact location. This forecast can be saved directly to a location on your route for offline viewing. This matters most for mountain, coastal, and multi-day routes where conditions vary significantly across terrain and cellular reception is poor.

Does Thred have avalanche risk and slope angle information?

Yes. Thred's planning tools include slope angle overlays for backcountry terrain, color-coded by avalanche risk threshold (Currently Colorado Only). This helps ski tourers, snowshoers, and mountaineers identify dangerous slopes and route around them during trip planning. Always pair slope angle data with your regional avalanche forecast.

Can I save route plans for offline use?

Yes. Thred auto-saves up to 20 weather forecasts in the background and allows routes to be saved alongside their forecast data. Access saved forecasts via the Weather icon in the Explore navigation bar. Do not rely solely on cached data for safety-critical decisions — check for updates whenever you have connectivity.

Can I check weather at multiple points along a route?

Yes. Pinpoint Weather Mode stays active between taps. Tap the trailhead, a mid-route col, and the summit in sequence to compare wind speed, temperature, and precipitation chance at each stage of your planned adventure.
